Everyone Votes

Everyone Votes consumes the most of my Wii time, partly because answering those questions is fun and goofy, but mostly because staring at aggregate data makes me feel smart.

There's even an arbitrary rating system to tell me I'm smart - here, look.

crudely rendered in MSPaint, as always
I am 70m away from Public Opinion.

With an 87% prediction accuracy, not only am I smart, but also precogniscent. (i already sent my resume to the NSA)

The latest poll question was "Which do you dislike more, heat or cold?" Here is my analysis of the results.

  • Guatemalans are hypocrites - ranked as the country with the most people who dislike heat, yet the average temperature is in the mid-70s.

  • Portuguese are dumb - ranked last in the accuracy of their predictions, my analysis indicates that all Portuguese are mouth-breathers who probably shouldn't own Wiis in the first place.

  • In general, people are lazy - for nearly every country, the aggregate voting demographic favored temperatures inverse to the actual temperature in that nation. Guatemala, above, is a good example - as is Norway, who was one of the cold countries that hates the cold. Apparently nobody has a passport.

The Wii has been called many things, from a revolution in gaming to antiquated technology, but I find it to be, if nothing else, a way to make fun of foreigners.

Everyone Votes Redux

My prediction rate is now 85%, thanks to making a prediction and then missing one.

I noticed, however, that after I missed that prediction (have aliens ever visited earth), my "Distance from Public Opinion" actually shrank, from 76m to 64m. I may make another Mii and crash my prediction results, to see what happens.

This is most interesting research.

Wii's Cross-Demographic Appeal

I've been a Nintendo kid for as long as I can remember. I got my first Nintendo way back in the day, and for Christmas got a subscription to Nintendo Power... right when they were doing the divinely-inspired Dragon Warrior promotion. So when the Wii came out, of course I snapped one up as soon as I could find it. Then the strangest thing happened.

On a phone call with my mom, she asks "So do you have one of those Wii things?" I tell her that of course I do, to which she replies "can you bring it over one day?"

This, people, FLOORS ME.

So I bring it over for her to try out. I've never seen her having as much fun in my life. Eventually I have to leave, bringing my Wii with me. But not before she asks... "If you find me one, could you pick it up for me?"

Fast forward to a week ago, where I buy my mom... MY MOM... A Nintendo Wii. She's hooked. And then, as if by some diabolical mechanism, she comes to me with eldritch information.

"Did you know," she whispers quietly to me over the phone, "that if you release the bowling ball backwards, you can make the little people in the alley jump?"

Priceless.
